Sometimes compressed files such as ZIP and RAR face CRC errors which prevent the files from extracting properly. Some programs such as IZArc and WinRAR simply refuse to extract any files if there is found to be a CRC error. If you wish to salvage the files which do not have errors try 7-Zip, an excellent open source archiver. 7-Zip will extract all the non-damaged files leaving only the damaged files untouched.

Here are some simple steps for using the software:

  1. Download and install 7-Zip
  2. Right-click on the archive then select 7-zip
  3. Click ‘extract files’

Any errors will appear in a box while extracting.
