Microsoft’s Bing account has raised concerns over a tweet about donating to support Japan earthquake victims in return for retweets. “How you can #SupportJapan – http://binged.it/fEh7iT. For every retweet, @bing will give $1 to Japan quake victims, up to $100K.” tweeted Bing which later apologized saying “we apologize the tweet was negatively perceived. Intent was to provide an easy way for people to help Japan. We have donated $100K.”

This marketing move echoes  Bing Lee, an Australian electronic retailer, which suffered a public backlash after it promised to donate $1 to victims of the Queensland floods if customers liked their Facebook page. Bing Lee later attempted to clarify their actions stating the campaign was encourage “other people and businesses to take action.”
